Accessibility in Web Design

Sarah Blevins

Abstract:

Accessibility is an important aspect of web design. In computer science, we focus on how to write programs, how the workplace is going to be set up, and even computing theories. Some courses discuss accessibility in computer science that leads to learning protocols and procedures in place to ensure that software being developed is accessible for the intended users. The placement of buttons, words, or colors on a webpage cam make it difficult for the user to understand and can make the website not user friendly. There is research from the computing community that provides computer scientists with accessibility standards and new research is further developing these standards. The goal of this research is to provide guidance for a website we are designing to aid everyday conversions. The guidance comes from a user survey about existing user practices and experiences.
